Normandy is a huge and diverse region consisting of 5 departments. Manche, Orne, Calvados, Eure and Seine Maritime. All offering unique charms largely derived from the geography, landscapes, buildings and historical provenance.

Where to Start?

It is no surprise that the further you are from the coast or a city the cheaper property becomes. Hence, Orne, parts of Manche and Calvados can offer amazing properties at unbelievable prices.

The Pays D’Auge in Calvados is where we have lived for 24 years. We love it.

Why?

It has everything. Wonderful diverse seasons, all four of them. My favourite is the Autumn. Temperate, colourful and the realisation of the harvest. The summer can be hot, the winter can be crisp and damp and the Spring just bursts with anticipation. Something for everyone.

The landscape is verdant providing acres of luscious grass to the spotted Normandy cows to produce that wonderful milk and cream. Camembert, Livarot and Pont L’Eveque cheeses to name but a few. Fresh and unadulterated ciders and the Calvados liquor that must be treated very carefully and with respect.

The rural landscape is wonderfully peaceful if that is what you want. Lovely quaint small villages and towns. Markets, street fairs and all manner of events from opera to Jazz.

The coast offers some of the very best destinations in France: Honfleur, Deauville, Trouville, Cabourg and Houlgate. The list is endless. Honfleur is the cradle of impressionism and offers more than 100 restaurants. You must visit!!!

Getting About

Paris is about two and a half hours by road. Excellent rail travel from Lisieux, Bernay and Deauville within two hours. An excellent road infrastructure that works.

We can reach Bordeaux within 5 hours.

Property

The region offers a vast range of options to suit. The traditional properties are timber framed known as colombage. Charming. Simple cottages, longhouses, farmhouses, manoirs and chateau. Prices to suit all pockets. Small town/village properties from 20,000 Euros to chateau at several million. Inter scattered with stone and brick properties to excite the imagination.
